State’s first major boys’ volleyball event since the Minnesota State High School League rejected proposal to make it a sanctioned sport in Minnesota
Shakopee, Minn. — Media are invited to the Minnesota Boys High School Volleyball State Tournament on June 16-17 at Shakopee High School. It is the state’s first major boys volleyball event since the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) rejected a proposal to make it a sanctioned sport in May.
“The result of last month’s vote was difficult for Minnesota’s volleyball community, but we remain committed to collaborating with the MSHSL and are optimistic for the future,” said Jenny Kilkelly, Minnesota Boys High School Volleyball Association Director and President. “This tournament is an opportunity to showcase the talent, passion and diversity of the student athletes who participate in boys volleyball. We can’t wait!”
The Minnesota Boys High School Volleyball Association has more than 70 teams and 800 athletes across the state and more than double the participation numbers and schools than when boys lacrosse was sanctioned in 2007. Twenty-four other states offer boys high school volleyball as an officially recognized sport supported by its local high school league.
