MN Conservatives Continue to Undermine Democracy

Every MN conservative voted against commission to investigate the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack

Minnesota - Today, U.S. Senate conservatives blocked a bill to create an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar supported the bill, while all of Minnesota’s conservative congressional representatives voted against the legislation.

“We’re thankful that Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar are standing with Minnesotans and working to strengthen our democracy. Minnesota conservatives in Congress should be ashamed for standing in the way of truth and transparency,” said Joe Davis, executive director of Alliance for a Better Minnesota. “Minnesota conservatives have proven that they could care less about our democracy or the will of the people. For months leading up to the U.S. Capitol attack, they spread lies and sowed doubts about the outcome of the election. And then they failed to take responsibility for emboldening Donald Trump and his supporters. Conservatives need to be held accountable for the damage they’re doing to our nation and our democracy.”

Following Trump supporters’ attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, Minnesota conservative Reps. Michelle Fischbach and Jim Hagedorn objected to the electoral college vote for President Joe Biden.

In December 2020, Reps. Pete Stauber, Jim Hagedorn, and Tom Emmer signed an amicus brief in support of a lawsuit asking the Supreme Court to overturn the results of the 2020 elections.
