JOB TITLE: Alternative Learning Programs Teacher – Secondary Complex

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB PURPOSE: The alternative learning programs teacher shall structure, implement, and manage direct instruction and facilitate learning for students as required by Minnesota State Standards and local expectations in the secondary complex. The teacher will also assist with Dean of Students responsibilities within the Alternative Learning Programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Alternative Learning Programs (ALP) Teacher shall:

1. Possess Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited university with preference given to applicants with a Master's Degree and/or experience working in an alternative learning or secondary school setting

2. Possess a valid teaching license in the state of Minnesota covering grade levels served within the ALP (5th – 12th grades) with preference given to applicants with teaching licenses in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and/or Science

3. Have experience working with Native American youth and young adults.

JOB DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITES:

1. Apply a wide variety of instructional practices, teaching strategies, and curriculum materials to support instruction across content areas and grade levels.

2. Use a variety of assessment strategies to plan and implement instruction.

3. Analyze and interpret formative and summative data.

4. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

5. Select and implement appropriate interventions.

6. Work as an effective member of professional learning teams, grade level teams, and participate as a contributing member on-site committees.

7. Utilize differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students.

8. Implement data-driven decision-making and data-driven instruction.

9. Apply a wide variety of behavior management strategies, including Restorative Practices, to support student behavior across environments and grade levels.

10. Approach each day as a clean slate with all students in order to support a positive school climate.

11. Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITES:

1. Utilizes proper English usage, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and English-speaking skills.

2. Knowledge of district policies, rules, and regulations.

3. Works with students, district personnel, and general public in a pleasant and cooperative manner.

4. Understands and follows complex oral and written instruction and completes assignments in an independent manner.

5. Analyzes situation and takes appropriate action regarding routine/emergency procedural matters without immediate supervision.

6. Plans, organizes, and coordinates assigned tasks to meet established timelines.

7. Maintains professional confidentiality and works collaboratively with peers.

8. Possesses knowledge of technology to present lessons, communicate with others, and keep records.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Stand, walk, bend over, kneel, crouch, reach, overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift, and/or carry up to 30 lbs. to shoulder height.

2. Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping).

3. Stand, sit, and/or walk for extended periods of time.

4. Demonstrates normal depth perception.

5. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard or typewriter, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.

6. See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without visual aids.
