A Scottsdale Unified School District governing board meeting was cut short on Tuesday night after attendees refused to wear masks despite district rules.
The packed meeting started with a heated disagreement over mask use, with school board President Jann-Michael Greenburg asking parents and attendees to put their masks on or go to an overflow room where they would be able to watch the meeting in a socially distanced manner.
About six minutes after the meeting started, with board members not getting a chance to move forward with agenda items due to the commotion, the board went into recess for the first time. Following eight minutes of interruption, there was a second recess and, ultimately, the board canceled the meeting.
