Wendell Gary Cook, age 64, started on his spiritual journey on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, from the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

He was born to Henry Cook and Anna Auginash on July 10, 1956, in Red Lake, Minnesota. Wendell graduated from Red Lake High School in 1975. He lived all his life in Red Lake and worked for many years as a logger for Joe Bee. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing softball and following the Red Lake Bombers Softball Team. He liked to play his favorite "5 spot" on Cleopatra Keno. He looked forward to riding around the Rez with his brother Dahl and loved spending time with his grandkids.

The family he joins are his parents Hank Cook and Anna Auginash; sisters Diane Cook and Carla Brun; son Darren "Scruff" Cook, Sr.; grandchildren JolieAna, Chrissa, and Amora; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters Renae (Justin) Cook, Jenelle (Larry) Cobenais, and Jo Cobenais; brothers Richard "Dahl" (Mary Ann) Cook, Duane Sr., and Kevin Sr.; sisters Sharon and Donna Cook; aunts Mary Ellen Cook, Elaine "Honey" Blanchard; uncle Fabian "Nickel" Cook; grandchildren Alyssa, Robyn, Kiana, Darren Jr., Brady, Alexys, Miigwan (Kelby), Mika, Justin Jr., Justyce, Aryelle, Nicholas Jr., Jenessa, Amya, Brittany, Miles, Jazlyn, and Rose; great-grandchildren Draco, Reyah, Noelle, Everly, Amariana and Jordyn.

A wake for Wendell will begin Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 1:00pm, at the new Red Lake Center, Red Lake, Minnesota, and will continue until Monday, May 10, 2021 at 1:00pm. Fr. Jerry Rogers will serve as pastor. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Fred Auginash, John Cobenais Sr., Gary Auginash Sr., Justin Auginash Sr., Verlin Kingbird Sr., Stan Cook, Clayton Cook, Craig Cook, Teddi, Fabian & Mike Crowe, Dan Cook, Shane Garrigan, Kyle Garrigan Sr., Justin Auginash Jr., and Gary Auginash Jr.
