Four hostages freed, but standoff continues after St. Cloud bank robbery

ST. CLOUD – A tense, hourslong standoff continued into the night Thursday at a St. Cloud bank despite the release of four employees taken hostage during an early afternoon robbery.

More than six hours into the standoff, three women and one man who had been held inside the Wells Fargo bank at 200 S. 33rd Av. ran out the bank's front door several minutes apart. Hundreds of onlookers watching from across the street erupted into applause and cheers as each freed hostage emerged.

Local law enforcement officers and the FBI said negotiations were continuing with a male suspect in the bank robbery, which was reported at 1:45 p.m. As of 8:15 p.m., no injuries were reported.
