Larry Roy, Sr., Makade Binesi "Black Eagle", Eagle Clan, age 75, of Redby, MN journeyed to the Spirit World, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Jourdain / Perpich Extended Care Center in Red Lake

Larry was born on July 31, 1945 in Red Lake, MN to Robert and Sara (Yellow) Roy. He grew up in Red Lake, graduating from Red Lake High School in 1965. In 1967, Larry enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Korea, until his honorable discharge in 1969. He returned to Redby and worked at the Redby Sawmill for a time. He then began working as a police officer for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and later Red Lake Tribal Police Department, until his retirement in 2003 after more than 30 years of service. Although "officially retired", he still enjoyed working security at Seven Clans Casino and for Indian Health Service.

Larry had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed watching sports, especially boxing the NFL, and cheering on the Vikings on Sunday. He liked watching old Western movies, going for car rides. He loved listening to country music, but most importantly, he enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and making sure they all knew they were loved and were special to him. He always took the time to visit with his kids and reminisce about his childhood experiences, and liked to tell stories about his own children as they were growing up.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Melanie (Wilfred) Roy, Jeffrey Roy, Sr., Lynelle "Sue" Roy, Renita "Beth" Roy, Nicole (Tom) Roy, Peter King, Larry Roy, Jr., Evan Thomas and Jillian Thomas; special granddaughters: Alexandra and Chelsey; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Brittany Roy and Sherri Jo Thomas; sisters: Carol, Arlene, Maxine and Florence; brothers: Victor, Curtiss, Gerald, Frank, Harvey, Hubert, Arnold and Clarence; three grandchildren: Michaela, Noelle and Michaelana; and great-grandson, Cade Roy.

A traditional wake will begin a 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the Redby Center in Redby and continue until the service at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 8, 2021. The Spiritual Advisor will be Larry's nephew, Adrian Liberty.

Active casketbearers will be: Cyras Whitefeather, Chase Lussier, Jr., Joshua Roy, Sr., Timothy A. Roy, Ryan Roy, Nicholas Roy, Devin Roy, Jeffrey Roy, Jr., and Avery Yepa. Honorary casketbearers will be: Victor Roy, Jr., Delwyn English, Sr. (Godson), Matt Graves, Michael Roy, Clayton Jourdain, Sr., Lisa Spears, Doug White, Bobby Lovelace, Patrick Graves, Patrick Pierre, Michael Barrett, Clifford Hardy, Rudy Kingbird, Harlan Stillday, James Cloud, Jr. and the JPECC Staff. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Red Lake. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service, Walker, MN.
