CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

RED LAKE TRIBAL ENGINEERING

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To design public works projects and provide engineering support to other departments for engineering services, construction management and development of material specifications. Additional responsibilities include assisting senior engineers with the review of traffic impact studies; road and bridge design/construction projects; building design/construction and building maintenance projects; design/construction of storm water management and drainage projects; storm water management facility review and inspection; review of site plans and subdivisions in accordance with established standards and the ability to prepare written and verbal reports and memorandums for review by supervisor. Reports to Director, Full-Time position w/benefits, salary; DOQ

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Provides engineering services to and/or management of Public Work Projects as assigned

• Provides design and drafting services for assigned projects and activities using the AutoCAD computer program

• Assist in review of construction projects, and development review projects

• Must have the ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities

• Must be proficient in the operation of various computer software packages

• Must have the ability to utilize surveying equipment

• Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations and procedures

• Must have the ability to prepare reports and business correspondence

• Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individual or groups of clients and the general public

• Must have the ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations

• Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

• Must have the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstracts and concrete variables

• Must have the ability to review and interpret construction drawing and specifications

• Must have the ability to use computer-aided design and drafting programs

• Assist senior department management as required

• Provides cordial, responsive and accurate customer services in both written and/or verbal formats

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate of Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology; or High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with training or experience in surveying, drafting and construction project management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

• Proficiency in the use of various computer software applications

• Must possess a current Driver's License with Insurance

• Possess strong background in mathematics

• Must work as a team to problem solve and be creative
