One-year-old girl killed in hit-and-run near Walker

The Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a multitude of incidents over the weekend, with the death of a toddler in rural Walker the most tragic.

Sheriff Tom Burch reports that Sunday around 5 p.m., deputies responded to reports that a child was struck by a vehicle in a residential driveway on Breezy Point Circle in Shingobee Township.

The vehicle had left the scene prior to law enforcement arrival.

Deputies immediately began first aid and lifesaving efforts, and the girl was transported to a nearby landing zone where lifesaving efforts continued but were not successful. The one-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

While deputies were on the scene, the driver returned the area, and 28-year-old Anthony Goose of Walker was taken into custody. Formal charges are pending.

An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office and the investigation is ongoing.

The Walker Police Department, North Memorial Ambulance, North Memorial Air Care and Walker Fire Department assisted at the scene.
