VIDEO - Red Lake: A Reservation Revolution

"Another vintage Red Lake video I copied from an old VHS tape that I better digitize before it's lost.I don't know the year it was recorded." -- The Real Renegades

Michael Meuers did some research to find out who produced it and when and whether it [ever] aired or not. This is what he found.

The film was sponsored by Naylor Electric, Beltrami Electric, 1st National Bank, and JC Penney, Co., all out of Bemidji, Minnesota. It was filmed, written, produced and narrated by Jon Haaven, at the time News Director/Anchor from 1958-1969 at KCMT TV 7/12 in Alexandria. Later, Haaven was publisher of the Echo Press Newspaper in Alexandria from 1969-1999. The photo attached was taken on 2/16/21 after Haaven's post COVID recovery. He is 87 years old and lives in Alexandria with his wife Bonnie who also had COVID but somehow no illness.

The film was originally broadcast on KCMT-TV, Alexandria, MN on June 13, 1967. They describe it as an overview of the Red Lake Reservation -- its history, people, educational system, religions, industries, and governance.
