Donna L. Provencial

May 28, 1961 - March 23, 2021

Donna Lois Provencial, of Saint Paul, Minnesota, began her journey to the spirit world on March 23rd, 2021. She was born to Ida Zimmerman and Batiste Provencial in Rosebud, South Dakota on May 28th, 1961 at the Rosebud Indian Hospital.

Donna had beautiful memories with her grandparents and cousins as a young girl on Rosebud. When she was five, she moved with her mother and siblings to Chicago, Illinois. Donna always had a smile on her face when she recalled her teen years and her childhood friends in Chicago. She was delighted to recently reconnect with some of her childhood friends and enjoyed talking to them frequently.

Donna found joy in joking with people, always ending her jokes with her signature "ayyyee". Donna had a great sense of humor and it was impossible not to join in with her laughter. Donna enjoyed watching a good movie, was an avid reader, and enjoyed tending to her many plants. Donna loved her dog Lucia, who was a devoted companion to her. Donna was the matriarch of her family; raising her nine children was a great source of pride to her. Donna had a special love for her grandchildren and loved seeing them as much as she could. Anything her grandchildren needed, she was always there to provide.

Donna was also known for helping others, and would frequently give people gifts from her home when they visited. Donna was non-judgmental and was a kind friend regardless of personal circumstances. Donna was a proud Rosebud Sicangu tribal member and supporter of AIM, living at the Yellow Thunder camp as a young woman. Donna continued to be a supporter of various movements in Indian Country and believed in traditional Lakota teachings.

Donna was survived by her children Aja Parshall, Tara Parshall, YellowCloud Provencial, Maka Charging Thunder, Cumpa-Su Charging Thunder, Tokala Charging Thunder, Wakinyan Provencial and Hehaka Hi Provencial, her mother, Ida, sisters Diana, Dolores, Dorothy, Georgia, and Stephanie, 18 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family in Minnesota and South Dakota. Donna was proceeded in death by her father, brother Batiste "Sonny" Provencial, and daughter Rubi Parshall. In the spirit world Donna was reunited with the love of her life, Jaime "Jimmy" Navarro. An overnight wake service for Donna will begin at 12 pm on Saturday, March 27th, 2021 until 12 pm on Sunday, March 28th, 2021 in her home at 1084 Euclid St, St. Paul, MN 55106.
