Public Comment Period – March 27 through May 11, 2021

The Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians of Minnesota has applied to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop and administer water quality standards in a similar manner

as a state (TAS).

Approval of the application would allow Red Lake to adopt and revise water quality standards and to certify that discharges comply with water quality standards for all surface waters within Red Lake's reservation. These include 135 lakes and an estimated 371 miles of rivers and streams in the following watersheds:

• Upper/Lower Red Lake

• Red Lake River

• Thief River

• Clearwater River

• Roseau River

• Rapid River

• Rainy River

EPA is currently reviewing Red Lake's application and is requesting public comments on the Tribe's application to regulate surface water quality. Comments are being accepted March 27 through May 11, 2021 by mail or email. Please direct all comments to:
