Both Cass Lake Boys and Girls advance in Section 8A; Panthers with 77-31 win over Red Lake and Lady Panthers over Fosston

Both teams advance to Section 8A Championship and chance to advance to State Tournament

Cass Lake, MN - The Cass Lake-Bena Panthers didn't have to stress on Tuesday night in the Section 8A Semifinals. The Panthers got out to a very quick start and dominated in every facet of the game the rest of the way. Defensively he Panthers forced the Warriors into 22 turnovers and were very physical throughout.

The Warriors could never generate anything on offense and they weren't sharp on defense giving up 43 first half points. The Panthers won the Section 8A East Subsection and will play in the Section 8A Championship on Thursday versus the #2 Seeded BGMR Gators

The Panthers will play BGMR for the 8A championship at the REA and a chance to go on to the State Tournament.

FOSSTON - The Cass Lake-Bena Panthers used a 21-0 run early in the first half as they rolled to the 58-30 win at Fosston on Tuesday night. With the score tied at 2-2, the Panthers used a smothering defense to force several Fosston turnovers and went on to score the next 21 points to take a 23-2 lead. The Greyhounds would finally stop the run on a three pointer from Kinsley Duppong with 9:24 left in the first half, but the damage had already been done.

Krisalyn Seeyle led the Panthers with 18 points as Cass Lake-Bena improved to 16-5. Kailee Fineday pitched in with 14 points for Cass Lake-Bena as the Panthers move on to the Section 8A Championship game against Stephen-Argyle on Friday, March 26th (7:00 pm at Thief River Falls).

Taylor Kroening led Fosston with 10 points as the Greyhounds end their season with an overall record of 18-2. The Greyhounds turned the ball over 30 times and were pressured all night by the Panther defense.

It was the first appearance in a Section Semifinal game in 16 years for Cass Lake-Bena. The Greyhounds graduate six seniors as Taylor Kroening, Faith Balstad, Grace Rue, Jaime Carlin, Kora Norland and Jenna Manecke all played their final game for the Greyhounds on Tuesday night.

The Lady Panthers will play Stephen-Argyle for the 8A championship at the REA and a chance to go on to the State Tournament.
