Frieda Marie (Smith) Oothoudt, age 78, of Onigum, Minnesota went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 21st, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born on October 21st, 1942 in Cass Lake, MN, one of 15 children born to Frances Gould and John Smith, Sr.

As the oldest daughter of the family, Frieda was the matriarch of the family. Being a loving person, she left her door open for everyone and offered a plate to all who walked through her door. She was a very honest person, never sugar coated anything she said and always had the right thing to say. If Frieda wasn't at home taking care of kids, you could find her at the casino or thrift shopping. She also enjoyed doing puzzles and collecting knick knacks. She was a very artistic woman, she was always creating something; from sewing blankets and clothes to making birch bark baskets, dolls, and beading. With her sister Kathy, they owned Ojibwe Arts, where they sold their creations. Many of her nieces, nephews and grandkids worked at "the shop" so she was able to go rummaging. Frieda imprinted many hearts along her way and will be dearly missed by all who love her.

Family that Frieda is reunited with are her husband; Ray "Chic" Oothoudt, sons; Joseph Howard and Frank Oothoudt, daughter; Rosalynda Oothoudt, parents; Frances Anne Gould and John Judd Smith, Sr., sister; Lynda Smith, brothers; David and Leo "Bart" Smith, grandsons; James Elmberg, Jason Howard, Eric Rico and LeRoy Gale, granddaughter; Zendayh Russell and many special nieces and nephews.

Those left behind the cherish her memory are her children; Stephan Howard of Cass Lake, Patrick Howard of Onigum, Daniel Oothoudt of Old Agency, Aaron Oothoudt, Sr. of Old Agency and Lavae Oothoudt of Old Agency, her siblings; Michael Smith, John Smith, Jr., Wayne Smith, Terry Smith, Robin Jordan, Jerry Jordan, Gloria Beaulieu, Kathy Frazer, Theresa Jordan, Margaret Jordan and Beverly Jordan, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

An over night wake for Frieda will be held at the Onigum Community Center beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24th and continue until her 11:00 a.m. Christian Burial on Thursday, March 25th, 2021. Father Timothy Lange will officiate. Helping to lay Frieda to rest are Roman Oothoudt, Dion Oothoudt, Charles Oothoudt, Wesley Oothoudt, Joseph Gale, Deondre Gale, Kevin Rico and Craig Rico. Alternate pallbearers are Jeremiah Smith, Dave Smith, Jake Bellanger and Carl Frazer, Jr. Her honorary pallbearers are her six brothers, five sisters, grandkids, nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Old Agency Catholic Cemetery at Old Agency, MN immediately following her Thursday service.
