LAW ENFORCEMENT VICTIM SPECIALIST

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY

Open: March 24, 2021-Until filled

Primary Function:

Law Enforcement Victim Specialist will provide quick referrals for crime victims. Work with surrounding service departments on the reservation to create a cohesive partnership to assist victims of crime. The goal will be to inform, support, and assist victims in navigating the aftermath of crime and the criminal justice process with dignity and resilience. Reports to Victim Services Supervisor, Department of Public Safety, full-time position w/benefits, salary; DOQ.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties:

• Attend all departmental and tribal trainings/meetings.

• Attend all funding training, including 43 hours of OVC online victim assistance training; OVC Minnesota Victim Assistance Academy; and all local and national training required.

• Meet with collaborative partners to review program goals, objectives for future strategic planning meetings, and discuss strategies for the development of a Victim Service Handbook.

• Provide the first point-of-contact for Red Lake officers seeking to quickly refer a victim to services.

• Provide victim services to include, referrals to various Red Lake Community services; crime victim compensation, temporary housing referral, follow-up contact with victims.

• Collect data, develop surveys, compile information for funding reporting, create and distribute informational program materials.

• Develop program effectiveness assessments and surveys with input from collaborative partners

• Prepare and submit all funding and financial reporting on-time.

• Prepare and submit data as part of all regular program narrative reports, utilizing office of Justice Program's Performance Measures Questionnaire tool.

• Help with distribution of information materials for victims of all crimes and domestic violence.

• Perform other duties as assigned by Director deemed necessary to provide quality service.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Required understanding and abiding by those Tribal Code, laws, regulations, policies and procedures that is applicable to the program/service, which is being provided.

• Required to report any known, or suspected violations of laws, regulations, policies, or procedures to the proper authorities.

• Ensure confidentiality when dealing with other employees, clients, and outside personnel.

Education/Work Experience/Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree and some experience in human service, or at least two years of experience in lieu of educational requirements/or equivalent preferred.

• Background and experience of Ojibwe language and traditional Ojibwe cultural knowledge

• Ability to work closely and effectively with families, elders and children preferred

• Must adhere to Confidentiality, Data Privacy Act

• Must abide by the Law Enforcement's code of Ethics and Confidentiality Policy

• Must have a valid driver's license

• Knowledge of Rape Crisis, Domestic Violence and Crime Victims' issues is helpful.

• Must be of good moral ethic and conduct

• Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test and background check.
