Joel Llewellyn Eastman Sr., age 55 of Eden, South Dakota journeyed to the Spirit World on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in Sisseton, South Dakota.

Joel was born on February 4, 1966 in Sisseton, South Dakota, the son of Clayton J. Eastman and Ruth G. Titus. Sisitunwan Sioux, a decedent ofCheif Ishtakhaba (Sleepy Eye) and of Chief Maka Cega, Chief Standing Buffalo and others. he had a rich history that he was so proud of! Joel was fluent in speaking the Dakota language and knew many Ahana songs. He rode with the Dakota 38 riders 2019, which he enjoyed and talked about a lot. He enjoyed his family and spoke about his grandchildren a lot. Joel will be missed, always. He was one of our mother’s fingers, as she would say.

Joel is survived by his children: Joel L. Eastman Jr., Clayton Two Crow, Koel Eastman and Kollen Eastman; daughter: Kelsey Eastman; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers: Cary Eastman, Reno Greeley, and Troy Greeley; sisters: Rolette Eastman and Angelina Eastman; nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his father: Clayton J. Eastman; mother: Ruth G. Titus; brother: Arness Titus; maternal grandmother: Grace Titus; maternal grandfather: Rev. Willis Titus; paternal grandmother: Angeline Two Stars; paternal grandfather: Raymond Eastman.

An all-night wake will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the Buffalo Lake District Center with the Old Agency Drum Group providing the music. A funeral service for Joel L. Eastman will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Buffalo Lake District Center with John Cloud officiating. The Big Stone Drum Group will provide the music.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Cary Eastman, Darold Hill, Tracy Harwood, Leslie King, Sheldon Kipp, Lyndon Haug, Darwin James, Chris Feather, Pat Duetsch Sr., Seth Eastman, Troy Greeley, Vine Marks Jr. “Hoki”, Donnie Williams, Nathan Smith, and Donovan King.

Casket Bearers will be Joel Eastman Jr., Koel Eastman, Dallas Hill, Winston Eastman Jarrien Barse, Nathanielrus Thompson, and Christian Martinez.

Interment at the Buffalo Lake Presbyterian Cemetery in Eden, South Dakota.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, Minnesota assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
