Red Lake's JV squad lost to the Nevis JV 18-14 in a modified one half game; Red Lake Lady Warriors open their season with 57-43 win at WHA

RED LAKE, MN - The Red Lake Warriors opened their 2020-21 season on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, hosting state-ranked Nevis under strict COVID-19 rules issued by the State of Minnesota recently.

These rules included masks were required during games, temperatures of all fans would be taken at the door, bleachers were marked for social distancing, no concessions were going to be allowed, each player and coach per team were only allowed two adult spectators per game, no children would be allowed at games, live streaming of games would be set up for fans to watch at their homes, and a statement that the district would be following the MSHSL and MNDH guidelines for the safety of students, staff and parents.

Red Lake kept pace with Nevis for the first ten minutes of play, but some hot shooting and strong defense allowed the Tigers to build a 38-21 halftime lead.

Although the Warriors kept pace with Nevis in the second half, they could never make up the deficit from the first half, losing 71-52.

Ty Warrington led Nevis with 23 points on the night, Eddie Kramer hit 18 points and Joe Hourhin had 14.

Aaron Chaboyea led the Warriors with 15 points, D. J. Holthusen had 10 points, with Andre Harrison hitting 7 points.

Prior to the varsity game, Red Lake's JV squad lost to the Nevis JV 18-14 in a modified one half game.

The Warriors will host Blackduck on January 22, host Pine River on January 26, before traveling to WHA on January 28th.

In other action tonight, the Red Lake Lady Warriors opened their season with a 57-43 win at Walker-Hackensack-Akley.
