Valerie Ross, 80, of Cloquet, MN died on Friday, February 5, 2021 in her home with her family by her side. She was born on July 14, 1940 to Jay Smith and Elizabeth Bear in Cloquet, MN. Valerie was the youngest daughter of the family. She loved traveling to different cities around the country, meeting new people and making lifelong friendships. Valerie had a passion of educating her son and family about the Native American Heritage. She loved dancing at Pow Wow's and to learn different customs.

Valerie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Napoleon; brothers, Rupert, Roger, Bill and Ronald "Chick" Smith; sisters, Bernice Jarski, Audrey Smith and Thresa LaPrairie. Survivors include her son, Napoleon (Veronica) Ross; brother, Rollin Smith; grandchildren, Jason Richard, Napoleon Ross, Valerie Ross, Sage Ross, Wiingashk Nibi Ross, Komikwaniht K. Ross; great grandchildren, James Ross and Niigaaniibinesi Pero; mother of Jason, Napoleon and Valerie is Mildred Richard; the mother of Sage is Heather LaPrairie; the mother of Wiingashk Nibi and Komikwaniht K. Ross is Veronica Ross.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Valerie's home: 928 Trettel Lane in Clouqet, MN. Spiritual Leaders will be Ayabe Muskooub and Vince Merrill.
