REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY CELEBRATION

On Monday, January 18th, the 23rd annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration will go virtual, featuring a 2-hour showcase of visual and performing artists who offer an original piece of work that embodies the spirit of Dr. King's legacy.

Now in its 23rd year, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration will again be one of many events that serve to remember the transformative impact of his leadership on the world. On Monday, January 18th, the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association (PPNA) will host a virtual 2-hour showcase featuring visual and performing artists who offer an original piece of work that embodies the spirit of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy. The celebration is dedicated to youth: the next generation of dreamers, change-makers, activists, influencers, and wanderers who are or will make our communities stronger, healthier, more inclusive, and just.

PPNA is thrilled to incorporate youth voices throughout the program including performances by Pillsbury House + Theatre's Chicago Avenue Project, The Avant Garde - Hip Hop History & The Arts. A musical performance by award winning singer Mikko Blaze will bookend the showcase of youth talent. Cori Lin, a midwest-based Japanese//Taiwanese-American illustrator and designer, will capture the life and work of Dr. King using illustration throughout the celebration. Hundreds of dollars in prizes will be awarded throughout the celebration to youth and classrooms.

As part of the celebration, we will center the 92 years that Dr. King's life and legacy continues to create lasting ripples around the globe through our 92 Strong campaign. The campaign serves to highlight organizations committed to one or more principles found in his work.
