Minnesota PUC Approves $1.3 Billion Xcel Wind Energy Investment

Saint Paul, MN – Today, LIUNA Minnesota and North Dakota released the following statement by Joel Smith, President and Business Manager, following the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission’s (MPUC) approval of Xcel Energy’s $1.3 billion proposal to “repower” seven existing wind farms. The projects, which are the first to be approved as part of MPUC’s economic recovery initiative, are expected to generate more than 700 union construction jobs and an estimated $163 million in long-term customer savings.

“This is welcome news to LIUNA members who worry about finding enough work to pay the bills and maintain health coverage in the middle of a pandemic-fueled recession. Xcel’s plan will create more than 700 high-quality jobs when we need them most, along with $163 million in long-term savings for customers. I can’t think of a better way for Xcel and the Commission to deliver happy holidays for hard-working Minnesotans.”
