Suzette "Sue" Marie Nord

Suzette "Sue" Marie Nord

April 3, 1949 - December 11, 2020

Suzette "Sue" Marie (Krueger) Nord passed from this life after a long battle with cancer at Sanford Hospital on December 11, 2020, in Bemidji, MN at the age of 71.

Sue was born on July 3, 1949 in Blackduck, MN to Donald Keith and Audrey Mae (Bergren) Krueger. She graduated from Blackduck High School in 1967 and Bemidji State University in 1971 with a BS in Elementary Education and later a Masters in Education. Sue married Murl, whom she met at a summer job at Lake Bemidji State Park in 1970. They shared 50 years together. Sue and Murl lived in Red Lake for a year, and then in 1972 started Timberedge Farm in Blackduck where she lived the rest of her life. Sue was an integral part of farm life, all while teaching full time. She started teaching in Ponemah in 1971 and then spent most of her career at Red Lake Elementary, teaching for 38 years. Sue taught 3rd grade and then became a reading teacher, which was her specialty and passion. As the quintessential farm matriarch, she regularly cooked for more than a dozen people in the summer. She taught thousands of calves to drink and baled tens of thousands of hay bales-all before there were air-ride seats and air conditioning in the tractor! Sue was diagnosed with cancer at age 48 and fought courageously for 23 years. She was one of the strongest, kindest, and gentlest of people. Her service and care for others is what kept her going for more than two decades. Sue loved traveling anywhere and everywhere to watch her kids and grandkids compete and perform in their sports and extracurriculars. Family vacations and time at the family cabin on North Twin Lake were highlights in a life filled with both challenges and much happiness. Sue taught Sunday School at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackduck for many years and truly lived by the words of her favorite hymn, What a Friend We Have in Jesus. Sue was a wonderful example of a faith-filled life lived in service to others, and she made sure to pass that on to her children and grandchildren.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, Murl of Blackduck; children, Rachel (Al) Gray of Blackduck and Dr. Christopher (Amy) Nord of Milaca; siblings Roger (Debbie) Krueger and Albert Krueger of Blackduck; grandchildren Nickolas (Mackenzie) Grundmeier, Drew Grundmeier, Emma and Jack Nord; great-grandchildren Audrey and Jaxon Grundmeier; and many nieces, nephew, siblings-in-law, family and friends who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Patti, and great-nephew Tucker Depew.

The family would like to thank Deanne "Dee" Smith, NP and Dr. Ciara O'Sullivan at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Rodney Will, and Dr. Sherry Billups for their loving care of Sue.

In remembrance of Sue, the family asks you to sit and read a book to a child. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackduck. A church service and memorial gathering is being planned for Summer 2021, when friends and family can gather safely and celebrate Sue and a beautiful life well lived.
