#Apply4UI: DEED Continues Payments and Outreach to Student Workers

DEED asks student workers to check their email and Unemployment Insurance accounts for additional information

St. Paul – The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) is providing payments to eligible student workers, instructions to students on next steps in the process, and resources to first-time applicants.

This week, DEED will be reaching out directly to students who have previously completed applications for unemployment insurance. Student applicants can expect to receive instructions by email or in the mail. We may ask some student applicants for additional information to ensure they meet all federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) eligibility requirements.

DEED started authorizing payments to students found eligible for the PUA program. We encourage any students whose employment was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to apply at http://www.uimn.org. Most questions about applying can be answered by reviewing our online resources; however, if you need assistance, you can call the Unemployment Insurance Customer Service Center at 651-296-3644 or 1-877-898-9090 in Greater Minnesota.

“We want to make applying for Unemployment Insurance as easy as possible,” said DEED Commissioner Steve Grove. “As we’ve started getting payments out, we want to be sure that anyone who has difficulties applying reaches out because we are here to help you. If your job has been impacted by COVID-19, I strongly encourage you to apply as soon as possible at http://www.uimn.org.”

Weekly question and answer sessions will be accessible through DEED’s YouTube site. Students will be able to ask questions during the event, but we ask that they send us their questions ahead of time on social media using #Apply4UI. Q and A sessions are scheduled for:

• Thursday, December 17th at 5:00 p.m.

• Tuesday, December 22nd at 4:30 p.m.

• Tuesday, December 29th at 4:30 p.m.

Reminders to all applicants:

• Eligibility is determined on a case by case basis.

• If you have already applied, you do not need to apply again. We are reviewing your information and will determine your eligibility. If we need more information, we will reach out to you.

• To apply, please visit: https://www.uimn.org/. The United States Department of Labor issued clarification today that applications could be accepted after December 26, however, DEED encourages everyone to apply right now.
