Delores Jean Lasley, 84 of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, Red Lake, MN passed on at Sanford Medical Center, Bemidji, MN on November 27, 2020.

Delores was born in Red Lake, MN on December 28, 1935 daughter of Winfield Morrison and Carrie (English) Downfeather. She was raised by her mother Carrie Downfeather and her dad Earl Downfeather in Red Lake, MN where she graduated at Red Lake High School as Valedictorian in 1954. She moved to Minneapolis to work as a nanny for a doctor’s family and then went on to attend Haskell Indian Nations University, Lawrence, Kansas. While attending college she met her husband, Jimmie Lasley and they married after graduating. They resided in Kansas City, MO for 10 years, then moved to Hanna, OK. to care for family before moving back home to Red Lake, MN. in 1971.

She owned and operated the Red Lake Coffee Shop, she was also employed at the Red Lake Nation Police Department as a dispatcher, Redby Greenhouse, Red Lake High School as cook and retired at the Red Lake Nation Head Start program. She was honored to be a member of the Ojibwe Hymn singers. She also served on the Red Lake Housing Board and as a Red Lake Nation District Representative between 1998-2002.

She enjoyed church services and gospel music, stashing her chocolates/sweets, pop, and pies for later while watching her TV shows with volume on high. Traveling and going for a cruise. She loved visits from family and friends. She was always proud of her children, grandchildren accomplishments. She instilled in each of them her wisdom and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Delores is survived by her 8 children: Deanna (Dan) Lasley, Delbert (Elgene) Lasley Sr., Senora Thompson, Shannon Rudolph, Oris Lasley, Gilbert Lasley, Jim (Jackie) Lasley, Karrie (Robert) Lasley-McClain. She has 41 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, Sisters: Donna Morrison, Aldene Morrison, Anita Towne.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; Carrie and Earl Downfeather, Winfield Morrison, Husband Jimmie Lasley Sr., Sisters; Shirley Maxwell, LaVonne Schmunk, Brothers; Billy King, Billy Jo, Ronald, John and Larry Morrison, Brother in-laws; Yoman, Monroe, Eugene, Sister in-laws; Rose, Mattie, Son in-law; Clayton Rudolph, niece, nephews, granddaughter, great-grandchildren.

A wake will begin Monday, December 14, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Red Lake Community Center, Red Lake, MN her funeral will continue until 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Burial will be at the Lasley’s Family Burial site. Reverend George Ross will officiate. Arrangements with Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji, MN
