Byron George Deegan, Sr., "Bagamose Makwa" which means "Walking Bear" of Cass Lake, Minnesota journeyed to the spirit world on Friday, November 20th, 2020 from the Jourdain-Perpich Nursing Home in Red Lake, MN.

Byron was the middle child of 15 born to Ellen (Earth) and Charles Deegan on July 11th, 1943 in White Earth, MN. He was a very avid athlete, playing volleyball, softball, bowling and was a Golden Gloves Boxer in his younger days. Byron received his degree from the University of Minnesota as a Counselor and was promoted to a Probation Officer with the City of Minneapolis. Byron loved his boys incredibly and having good times with his family and friends meant the world to him.

Family welcoming Byron to the spirit world are his parents, Ellen and Charles Deegan; son, Justus Deegan; daughter, Shelly English; granddaughter, Paris and many of his brothers and sisters.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Byron (Venessa) Deegan, Jr. of Cass Lake, Louie (Rena) Deegan of Bemidji, Brendin (Geraldine) Deegan of Cass Lake and Lordez (Becki) Deegan of Duluth; daughter, Charice English of Bemidji; brothers, David Deegan and Eugene (Barb) Deegan; sister, Connie Head, 28 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives.

A wake for Byron will begin at 4:00 p.m., Monday, November 23rd and continue until his 1:00 p.m. traditional service on Wednesday, November 25th all being held at the Sports Complex in NayTahWaush, MN. Merlin Deegan will be his Spiritual Advisor. Pallbearers for Byron will be all his grandsons. His honorary pallbearers will be all his granddaughters. At Byron's request his cremated remains will remain with his family.
