Red Lake Schools to continue Distance Learning until January 22, 2021

RED LAKE, MN – At the Regular Red Lake School Board Meeting held on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the District Headquarters Office, the Board voted unanimously 5-0 to continue in the Distance Learning Model until the end of the second quarter, January 22, 2021.

The decision came after reviewing data from the current Red Lake and Beltrami County case numbers, and knowing beforehand that the Governor was going to impose new restrictions starting Friday, to slow the spread of COVID-19 that has caused more than 3,000 deaths in Minnesota and threatens to overwhelm hospital capacities.

Minnesota reported a single-day record 67 coronavirus deaths on Wednesday.

Superintendent Crowley reported that the Truth in Taxation Hearing would be held on December 1, 2020 at 6 PM in the District office, the next Regular Board Meeting was scheduled for December 16th at 2 PM in the District Office, and the Board Reorganizational Meeting would take place on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 2 PM in the District Office.

Other staff members presented reports and in the Consent Agenda, approved 5-0, Lacey Donnell-Graves was hired as paraprofessional, along with Tashina Raincloud, and unpaid leave request from Quentin Nelson was approved until January 4, 2021, a transfer request from Joseph McNeil was approved into an open Custodian position, a resignation by Rawn Graves was approved, a transfer request for Misty Dow was approved into a School Health Paraprofessional position and additions to the Certified and Non-Certified Substitute lists were also approved.

October 2020 Check and Wire Payments in the amount of $2,938,217.35 was also approved.

Discussions were held in the District hiring a School Psychologist, World's Best Workforce Summary report, COVID-19 updates, district equipment and technology during distance learning, second readings of various policies, and employees working from home and compensation for those that were required to be at work.

Those procedures would be drafted and go before both Certified and Non-Certified Inions before coming back to the Board for approval.
