Manuel Gurneau, 84, of Red Lake, MN died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Jourdain Perpich Extended Care Facility in Red Lake, MN.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 20, 2020 at the Red Lake Center with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and go until the time of service on Friday. Interment will be at 2:00 pm at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Red Lake.
Manuel was born on December 1, 1935 in Red Lake, MN, the son of James and Anna (Weise) Gurneau. He attended Pipestone and Flandreau boarding schools until the age of 17. He then served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1959 and spent 16 months in Korea. He returned to Minnesota where he began his medical career as an orderly at the General Hospital in Minneapolis. Manuel continued his education to receive his RN degree and continued his nursing career until his retirement. Manuel returned to Red Lake for the remainder of his time. He was a talented artist, loved travel, and had a wonderful sense of humor. But above all, he loved to sit by and look out over what he called, "my lake," the great Red Lake.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Margaret (Don) Senogles, Mami (Chester) Morrison, Genevieve (Wallace) Tverstol; his brothers Theodore (Mami) Gurneau, Wilford (Evelyn) Gurneau. He is survived by his sister Anna Mischke of Moorhead and numerous nieces and nephews.
Active casket bearers will be, Gene Senogles, Wally Tverstol, Willie Morrison, Eddie Lone, Mitchell Johnson, Jr., and Scott Haugen.
Honorary casket bearers will be his numerous nieces and nephews.
