NEW BEDFORD — Authorities have confirmed the identity of the man shot and killed in Florida during an investigation into the disappearance of a teen from Mashpee and have revealed more details about the case.

Luis Zaragoza, 37, who also goes by the name of Luis Barboza, was shot Thursday morning as the U.S. Marshals Service Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force was trying to take him into custody outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Crestview, Florida, according to a statement issued Monday by Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.

Zaragoza was wanted for the kidnapping of 18-year-old Jalajhia Finklea, a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe who has been missing since Oct. 20. The New Bedford police have been working with Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office to investigate her disappearance, the statement says.
