Peever man sentenced in construction bribery scheme

The former owner of a contracting company was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for his role in a bribery scheme.

John T. German, Jr., 37, of Peever was sentenced at the Aberdeen federal courthouse in connection to activity involving a loss of $465,000, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

German and two partners formed Tatanka Contracting on Dec. 15, 2016, according to the release. In October 2017, the Dakota Nations Development Corp. contracted with Tatanka to complete dirt work associated with an elderly village project. That contract guaranteed a payment of $1,070,740, although a change order later increased the contract to $1,129,679, per the release.
