DHA Recognizes the Contributions of Pharmacists during American Pharmacists Month

Fort Sam Houston, Texas – The Defense Health Agency joins the American Pharmacists Association in celebrating October 2020 as American Pharmacists Month.

“The Defense Health Agency relies on pharmacists as partners in the delivery of comprehensive healthcare. Pharmacists support the medical readiness of our service members and ensure the health of their families,” said Ronald J. Place, MD, and Director of the Defense Health Agency.

“Pharmacists are a critical component of our nation’s healthcare delivery system. From acute care to chronic needs, we rely on their expertise to protect the health and wellbeing of our military force,” Place said. “Their work is demanding – especially now with the added challenges and risks of COVID-19. Pharmacy teams across the Military Health System have exhibited incredible flexibility, modifying their services by standing up drive-through and curbside pharmacy operations to ensure their patients have access to the medications they need while decreasing the risk of exposure to the coronavirus.”

The APhA is the largest association of pharmacists in the U.S. It provides leadership to help pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, student pharmacists and pharmacy technicians find success and satisfaction in their work, while advocating for changes that benefit them and their patients.

The DHA hires civilian personnel to work alongside military counterparts in more than 250 healthcare facilities and clinics around the world, including many military bases in the United States. DHA medical professionals enjoy flexible work schedules, competitive salaries, generous benefits packages, lower amounts of collateral work and the ability to spend more time focused on patients.
