Danielle Grant is making sure local kids are well-positioned for life beyond high school.

As president and CEO of AchieveMpls, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing opportunity gaps for students in Minneapolis Public Schools, Grant has worked to increase the organization's reach by expanding the Career and College Centers into St. Paul Public Schools, launching a new career readiness initiative, partnering with Best Buy Co. Inc. on career and college readiness curriculum, and creating a new college internship program for young leaders of color.

Grant, who is Turtle Mountain Ojibwe, has spent much of her 30-year career advocating for the Native American community. She currently serves as board chairwoman of the American Indian OIC and was previously employed by Minneapolis Public Schools as the executive director of educational and cultural services and Indian education, and director of Indian education. Under her leadership, graduation rates for Native American students nearly tripled and disciplinary referrals declined significantly.
