Red Lake High School has first football and volleyball practice of 2020 under state mandated guidelines - P2

Fans will be allowed at football games with 250 maximum; no fans will be allowed at volleyball games

RED LAKE, MN – At a Special School Board Meeting held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, the Red Lake School Board voted 2-1-2 to allow a modified football and volleyball season this fall, as presented by Activities Director Nolan Desjarlait.

On Monday, September 28, 2020, they held their first practice.

On Monday, September 21, 2020, the Minnesota State High School League's Board of Directors approved a reconsideration placement of fall activities, a decision that brings football and volleyball back to the fall season.

The plan, which fits within COVID-19 guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health, will have an approved football season beginning on Sept. 28 with the first of six regular season games scheduled for the week of Oct. 5.

Volleyball will begin an 11-week season on Sept. 28 and member schools may play their first matches on Oct. 8. In the framework that was approved by the board, two weeks of postseason play would begin the week of Nov. 30. Like football, member schools have had the option of participating in voluntary training sessions since Sept. 14.

Although the volleyball schedule isn't out yet, the football team will host their first game on Friday, October 9th at 4 PM. Covid-19 precautions will be in place and strictly enforced, and the fan capacity will be 250 maximum.

There will be no fans allowed in the gym during volleyball games.
