Very first tribally-owned dispensary in Michigan heading to Bay Mills

BAY MILLS — Bay Mills Indian Community is taking the lead in the tribally-owned recreational marijuana market as the community will open their first retail marijuana facility.

The facility will be named Northern Light Cannabis Company, thanks to tribal community member Sierra Hascall, and is a 100% tribal-owned venture. It will be a source of job creation and economic development for Bay Mills. Northern Light Cannabis will be an “all-in-one” business and will be the site for growing, processing, testing and sale of the product at the M-28/I-75 property.

According to Bryan Newland, Bay Mills Indian Community tribal chairman, some work is going to be done on the facilities to get them ready for operation, including both a dispensary and grow operation. The initial investment in the property will be approximately $1 million with much of that money going toward setting up the dispensary and growing operations. In the next year, an additional $2-3 million will be invested in growing, testing and processing cannabis on-site.
