Lillian T. (Waubuno) Stand “Niibanakimukiban” (Woman who is everywhere) Bullhead Clan of White Earth, age 86, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Sunset: Saturday, September 12, 2020 surrounded by her children, grandchildren and friends at home.
Born in Red Lake the daughter of Hattie (Waubuno) Smith and Chief John F. Smith.
Lilian worked in many areas teacher @ Heart of the Earth Survival School, Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource in child care. She was one of several elders who spoke to Minnesota Legislators on the importance to preserve and revitalize the Ojibwe and Dakota languages. Thus, came Minnesota Legislature Language Revitalization Act in 2013 and funding for language in classrooms and a few programs.
She also was a co-founder of Wisdom Steps.
Survived by daughters: Magi Spears, Roberta Elliott, Eileen Stand, Diane Stand, Roxann Anoka and Val LaFave; sons: Joseph Spears, Arnold R. Stand Jr. and Michael Stand Sr.; 32 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her mother: Hattie (Waubuno) Smith, husband Arnold Stand Sr, three children Cheryl Sein, Duane Stand and Ivy Stand, brothers Eugene, Sam, and Louis Smith and sisters Sophie Roy and Eva Sutton.
