Hy-Vee Announces $120,000 Donation to the Page Education Foundation as Part of Its Commitment to Organizations Supporting Racial Unity and Equality

On Wednesday, August 26, Hy-Vee presented a $120,000 ceremonial check to the Page Education Foundation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Aug. 27, 2020) - Hy-Vee, Inc. announces today that it has donated $120,000 to the Page Education Foundation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The donation is part of Hy-Vee's $1 million and one million volunteer-hour commitment to organizations that support racial unity and equality.

The Page Education Foundation was founded in 1988 by NFL Hall of Fame inductee, retired justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, Alan Page, and his late wife Diane Sims Page. The organization provides scholarships for hundreds of students of color throughout the state of Minnesota. In exchange for financial support, scholarship recipients give back to the community by mentoring younger students.

"The work that the Page Education Foundation does to provide educational opportunities for children and young adults in Minnesota is truly inspiring," said Mary Fuhrman, senior vice president of Hy-Vee's north region. "Hy-Vee is proud to support such an integral community organization and help provide more scholarship awards and educational opportunities for students throughout the state."

"None of us do anything by ourselves," said Justice Alan Page, cofounder of the Page Education Foundation. "There is this notion that 'I did x, y and z' – well I did x, y and z with the help of any number of people. When I talk about how [Hy-Vee's] support, what that means to us, it allows us to continue on into the future."

As part of its $1 million commitment, in recent weeks, Hy-Vee has donated $50,000 each to five organizations including the Evelyn K. Davis Center, the NAACP Des Moines branch, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM), Starts Right Here and Urban Dreams.

In June, Hy-Vee's 11 stores in the Twin Cities partnered with customers and suppliers to hold a weeklong "Stuff-A-Truck" campaign that sent 18 semi truckloads of supplies to 10 local organizations across the Twin Cities.

Hy-Vee donated $100,000 toward the purchase of food and supplies for the campaign.

With today's announcement, Hy-Vee has donated $470,000 toward its previously announced $1 million commitment of donations to organizations working toward racial unity and equality.
