Raina Lynn Neeland, 18, of Rice Lake, Minnesota lost her life on Monday, August 17, 2020 in the heroic act of saving children at the Clearwater Dam in Sinclair Township.

A wake will begin on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. at Lenny's home at 26335 Lower Rice Lake Road in Rice Lake, MN and continue until Funeral services on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with the burial following at St. Phillip's Episcopal Cemetery in Rice Lake, MN. A feast will follow the burial at Lenny's house. Due to COVID-19 masks are required and social distancing will be practiced. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.

She was born in Bemidji, Minnesota to Blaise Neeland and Stephanie Birt on November 10, 2001. She was raised by her grandma, Lenny Neeland and was her backbone and helper. Raina was born a caretaker, always looking out for everyone and a mama bear. She became a Personal Care Assistant and worked at the Circle of Life Home Care in Mahnomen. She was quiet but had such a spark of life. She could make friends anywhere with her kindness and compassion. Raina loved to play Yatzhee and Ten Thousand. After she turned 18, she also loved to go to the casino. Family was very important to her and she put them first and looked forward to spending time with them. She enjoyed camp. Raina was an avid fisherman. Last year she started going out in the woods and ricing.

She is survived by her grandmother, Lenny Neeland; her father, Blaise Neeland; her step mom, Amanda LaFriniere; her mother, Stephanie Birt; her siblings, Enyssa Birt, Aiyana Neeland, Blaise Neeland Jr., Ayden Hall, Kaine Neeland, Laila Neeland, Rihanna Birt, Marcus Birt, Daniel Birt; her other grandma, Evelyn Thompson; her other grandparents, Lynette and Mike Thompson; her god mother, Adrianne (Hector) Neeland Martinez; her favorite bus driver, Wenesdai Goldstein; and all her aunties, uncles, cousins, and her Rice Lake Community.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Dean Birt, Cindy Standingcloud, and Liza Murray; and her sister, Maleena Birt.
