Red Lake Boys & Girls Club celebrates completion of graffiti mural at Chanelle Rosebear Basketball Court in Ponemah - P2

A special dedication memorial piece for Chanelle Rosebear completed on her birthday

PONEMAH, MN - At shortly after 3 PM on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, runners from the Red Lake Boys & Girls Club and other volunteers, completed their run from the Red Lake Pow Wow Grounds, having left about 10 AM. It was about a 30 mile run, with runners each traveling about 3/10s of a mile in relay style to the Chanelle Rosebear Basketball Court in Ponemah.

Cheyenne River Sioux artist Leland Bryan had just finished the mural he was doing, which was a special dedication memorial piece for Chanelle Rosebear.

Chanelle was a 15 year old student of Red Lake High School in Red Lake, Minnesota, and one of the victims killed in the Red Lake High School massacre of March 21, 2005. Nine people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured in this school shooting. Today was also Chanelle's birthday, and planned activities aside from the run, were honor songs, guest speakers and a meal afterwards.

The event was sponsored by the Red Lake and Ponemah Boy's and Girl's Clubs of the Red Lake Indian Reservation.
