Leon "Giddum" Joseph Johnson, age 68, of the Bear Clan and Chishom, Minnesota began his spiritual journey on Thursday, July 30th, 2020 from Keewatin, MN. Leon was born at home in Ponemah, MN, and Ojibwe was his first language in which he was fluent, on April 30th, 1952 to LuVerne Johnson.

Giddum married his soul mate Leanne Schug on June 9, 1987. He resided in Minneapolis, Chisholm and Hibbing, Minnesota during his walk on this physical world. Giddum loved to cook, he went to Culinary School in Minneapolis. He also loved caring for the elders, working as a CNA for several years. He loved all kinds of sports and enjoyed engaging his children in football, ice skating and watching T.V. Giddum will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those that will greet Giddum in the spirit world will be his father, his mother, LuVerne Johnson; his grandmother, Marion Downwind; his brother, Ronald "Butch" Johnson; sister, Karen June Johnson; his grandparents, aunts, uncles and many more relatives and friends.

He leaves behind his soulmate Leanne (Schug) Johnson of 38 years; his children, Roshelle Anne (Dustin McDonough) Mountain of Minneapolis, Naomi Marion (Brian) Aluni of Virginia, Lindsey Elyse (Randy Hanson) Johnson of Moorhead, Bethany Lucille Rose Johnson of Chisholm and Joseph Robert Lee (Kylee Uncini) Johnson of West Eveleth; grandchildren, Raina Danielle Mountain-McDonogh, Emmerie, Alivia Grace and Wilder Perry Joseph Hanson, and Violet Lucille Rose Johnson; sister, Noreen and numerous other family members and his friends.

Traditional Native American Service for Leon will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 8th, 2020 at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, MN. Allen Hardy will be his Spiritual Advisor. Pallbearers for Leon will be Randy Cloud, Ron Cloud, Michael Strong, David Rosebear, Jr., Barry Oakgrove, Jr., Shawn Lussier, and Adam Perkins, Jr. The alternate pallbearer is Brian Johnson. His honorary pallbearers are Julie Johnson and Linda Cloud. Interment will be in the Johnson Family Burial Grounds at Ponemah, MN on Saturday.
