Leon Michael Barney, 49, of Cloquet, Minnesota, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 30, 2020. Leon was born on January 28, 1971, in Cloquet, to Leslie Sr. and Bonita (Shabiash) Barney.

Leon grew up in Cloquet and graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth. He went on to work in construction for the Fond du Lac Construction Company. Leon enjoyed hunting and target practice, fishing, and especially time with his family. His time spent with his granddaughter Teanna gave him the greatest pleasure, as did playing with Zak. Leon loved his plants and time given to gardening.

Leon is survived by his son Lee Barney and daughter Leah Barney, both of Brookston,; mother Bonita Barney of Cloquet; granddaughter Teonna Barney; and sister Tracey Shabiash of Coleraine. He was preceded in death by his father Leslie Barney Sr.; sister Angela Barney; and brothers Leslie Barney, Jr. and Brad Barney.

A Rite of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at 1:00pm at Leon's residence in Cloquet, with a gathering of family and friends from 11:00am to the time of service. Interment will be at Holy Family Cemetery, Cloquet. Arrangements are being handled by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service serving northern Minnesota (whisperingpinesnorth.com).
