MN350 responds to legislative auditor's report on PUC

The Office of the Legislative Auditor today released a report criticizing the Public Utilities Commission for serious failings in ensuring that Minnesotans can participate fully in hearings and decisions. MN350's response:

"Today's report shows what Line 3 opponents have been saying all along," MN350 organizer Andy Pearson said. "The commission really dropped the ball on providing a fair chance for the public's concerns to be heard. Bad processes lead to bad outcomes. Some of the recommendations from the auditor's report are literally for the PUC to start following state law -- hardly a strong testament to the agency's actions so far. Line 3 opponents have been asking for years for the commission to follow state law and deny the approval for this pipeline, which is the same thing the Department of Commerce has been asking. Today's report shows the importance of careful process, including the Department of Commerce's legal appeal of the Line 3 Certificate of Need."
