Hy-Vee to Give Away 144,000 Peaches with Contactless, Drive-Thru Event at Mall of America on Friday

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (June 25, 2020) — Twin Cities-area Hy-Vee stores will give away 144,000 peaches with a contactless, drive-thru event at Mall of America on Friday. The giveaway will start at 8 a.m. and continue until 10 a.m., or while supplies last.

The donation is made courtesy of Hy-Vee’s fruit supplier SunWest Fruit Company and the event will be held in cooperation with Mall of America and Second Harvest Heartland, the largest food bank in Minnesota. Hy-Vee is donating fresh produce to customers as the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to impact individuals and families across the Midwest. Hy-Vee is giving away 20 peaches to the first 7,200 customers for a donation equaling 36,000 pounds.

As more families continue to become financially impacted by the pandemic, Hy-Vee and SunWest Fruit Company believe it’s important to provide access to high-quality produce during this time of need.

Fresh peaches will be distributed at Mall of America in the north parking lot off Lindau Lane and 24th Avenue South to customers for free on a first-come, first-served basis by Hy-Vee employees and volunteers from Second Harvest Heartland. All event staff will be wearing masks and gloves for additional safety measures. Product will be safely loaded into customer vehicles using a contactless method to minimize physical contact and maintain social distancing. Walk-ups permitted for public transit customers only.
