Arlis "Anna" LaFontaine-Hopkin

August 23, 1951 - June 10, 2020

Anna, age 68, of Saint Paul, a member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribe, died on June 10, 2020. She was born in Sisseton, Roberts County, South Dakota to Andrew P. and Bernice Y. (King) LaFontaine on August 23, 1951. She graduated from White Bear Lake Area High School in 1971. She earned a degree in culinary arts, and she owned her own cleaning business for 35 years.

Anna worked in missionary work and ministry for 45 years, during which her motivation to move God's Word sent her to live in 14 states and brought her as far as Kenya, Africa. More recently, she worked locally with Native-American tribes and amongst people with addiction.

Anna's six-year battle with cancer ended at home surrounded by her most beloved family. She is survived by her children: Kelly (Roy) Rea, Letitia (Lionel Sr.) LaFontaine-Becerra, Jaired (Leah) Johnson; grandchildren: Ashlee (Tony) Nelson, Christopher Mitchell, Lionel Becerra Jr., Andrea Becerra, Isaiah Mitchell, Lisette Becerra, Sterling Becerra, Arianna Thomas, Otto Johnson; great-grandchildren: Brejaun Mitchell Jr., Naylani Annlee Mitchell; siblings: Eugene "Buddy" (Carol) LaFontaine, Lyle LaFontaine, Cheryl (Oscar) Avina, Harlen LaFontaine, June Wittliff, Cheryl Rae Wittliff, Marlen Wittliff; many nieces and nephews; foster parents Carl and Falline Sundquist; her best friend and father of her children (Letitia and Jaired), Shannon Johnson. She is preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Andrew "Tippy" LaFontaine, Waylen Kelly LaFontaine.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. The Peterson Chapel, 300 Main Street, St. Michael, 55376. Flowers provided by St. Michael Marketplace Floral. Due to the pandemic, we are unable to host a gathering following the service. Private burial (immediate family only) at St. Mary's Episcopal Cemetery, Old Agency Village, South Dakota.

To ensure the safety and health of all in attendance, we will be following the guidelines of Executive Order 20-62. We ask that you please wear a mask, and if you or anyone in your household is feeling unwell to please stay home. Hand sanitizer stations will be provided. Seating will be staggered and may be limited.
