2 vehicle crash on US #2 leaves many injured


ECKLES TOWNSHIP, MN: On June 6, 2020 at 8:25 p.m. the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a two vehicle crash near the intersection of U.S. Hwy 2 and Hwy 89 in Eckles Township, which is located approximately 1.5 miles west of Bemidji, MN.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 GMC Sonoma, driven by Brooklyn A. Janson, Age 21, of Bemidji was traveling eastbound on US #2 when it crossed the median and struck a westbound 2001 Ford Taurus, driven by Dayton D. Carlson, age 32, of Bemidji. Janson was the lone occupant of the GMC Sonoma. The Ford Taurus, operated by Carlson had four adult passengers in the vehicle, identified as Alice E. Johnson, age 31, of Bemidji, Albert J. Johnson, age 20 of Bemidji, Guy Johnson, age 33 of Redby, MN and Oliver R. Johnson, age 74, no address listed.

All occupants of both vehicles sustained varying levels of injury. Both operators exhibited signs of impairment. This crash is pending further investigation by the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office. No other information is currently available.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Bemidji Police Department, Bemidji Fire Department, Bemidji Ambulance, Leech Lake Ambulance, Bagley Ambulance, Red Lake Ambulance, North Memorial Air Care and North Country First Responders.
