Minnesota Governor Activates National Guard Amid Protests Over George Floyd's Death

Gov. Tim Walz on Thursday signed an executive order activating the Minnesota National Guard to help restore peace following days of furor over a video showing a white police officer holding his knee on the neck of a black man who died.

Local leaders urged Walz to deploy the National Guard after peaceful protests, in which demonstrators called for charges against the four officers involved in the killing of George Floyd. They evolved into attacks on first responders, law enforcement and private businesses especially during Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
