Red Lake High School Graduation Ceremony to be held at 1 PM on Saturday, May 23, 2020 - P2

Restrictions will be in place due to the Coronavirus Epidemic

RED LAKE, MN - For weeks Red Lake High School staff have been working on a plan for this years 2020 graduation ceremony for seniors, but they have also had to modify it several times because of Governor Walz's peacetime state of emergency, which was extended for another 30 days on May 13, 2020.

The plan, which was presented to the Red Lake School Board at their May 13th Special Board Meeting, stated that the graduation ceremony would be held in front of the Red Lake High School on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 1 PM. The original plan was to use the RLHS Football Field as the staging area, but with the State's restrictions on gatherings and social distancing, that idea had to be scrapped.

Seniors will be in vehicles with immediate family, one vehicle per graduating family, and no one but the graduate would be allowed to exit that vehicle.

Vehicles will line up in order along the street by the Skate Pqrk, followed by Administration and Senior speeches at the stage in front of RLHS.

Seniors to receive their diploma, will exit their vehicle and walk across the stage to pick it up from the table, before immediately returning to their vehicles. A photographer will be in an area near the lake where the student will then have to drive their for photographs. RLHS will also have at least one photographer onsite to take photos and make available to the Seniors and their families online, as well as on Red Lake Nation News.

After the photography session by the lake, graduates and their families will go to the staging area for a final escort near the west side of RLHS, where emergency vehicles will take them around Red Lake.

A recording of the event will be shared at a later time.

Seniors can pick up their caps, gowns, etc. on Monday and Thursday of next week, and yard signs are also available to students. A wall on the RLHS basketball gym now has all graduating seniors displayed on it.

There will probably be similar ceremonies throughout the State of Minnesota, some that are virtual in nature, as well as some not having a ceremony at all or delaying it. But the Red Lake School District is doing all it can, under the current situation, to make it memorable. Students graduating have came a long way in reaching this goal, and their dedication and hard work throughout the years is highly commendable.

Hopefully, better days are coming, stay safe, and best wishes into the future for everyone.

Red Lake High School Graduation Parking Lot Drive in Style Route

Saturday, May 23, 2020 1:00 PM

The escort will start right after the Graduation ceremony. The Red Lake Police, Ambulance, Fire Dept., Red Lake Schools buses will provide the escort for the graduates. The Graduates will be following behind the vehicles. The planned route is to depart from the Red Lake Secondary Complex, pass the Trading Post, Red Lake Police/Fire department, and then go around the Mission school corner, turn at BOT towards the Red Lake Elementary school, go down past the RL DNR and return to the Red Lake Secondary Complex where the escort will end.

If anyone would like to make posters, honk your vehicle horn, give a shout out, or wave “Congratulations to the RLHS Class of 2020” as they pass by your place of business or Highway one, please do. Our seniors would love to be recognized! It would also be greatly appreciated.

This is a milestone for them all! Thank you for participating.
