The U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) is considering a request for Federal assistance from Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians to renovate the Old College Building, now named the Adaawe-wigamig Business Center in Red Lake, Minnesota, Beltrami County. Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, EDA is conducting an environmental assessment (EA) of the proposed project.
The planned construction/renovation will take place at the former Red Lake Nation College building, located at 23748 Highway 1 East, Red Lake, MN, on the Red Lake Reservation (legal location is SW1/4 SE1/4 Section 21, T151N R34W).
The renovations will entail interior renovations, exterior finishes, reroofing of the building, and minor demolition of some interior and exterior structures. Additional improvements to the existing parking lots for the building to create approximately 118 new parking spaces, require a land survey, soil testing, and limited site-work and grading.
The Adaawe-wigamig Business Incubation Center will provide commercial co-working space and business rental units for small business development on the Red Lake Reservation.
Project information is available for review at the offices of 4-Directions Development, 23748 Highway 1 East, Red Lake, MN. (218) 210-0358 or email at sjames@4directionsrl.org
