Doug Mills – New York Times

White House staff and guests, wearing face masks, make their way to the Rose Garden as President Donald Trump prepares for a news conference about the coronavirus, Monday, May 11, 2020, at the White House in Washington. The White House on Monday May 11, ordered all West Wing employees to wear masks at work unless they are sitting at their desks, an abrupt shift in policy after two aides working near the president tested positive for the coronavirus.

WASHINGTON – Three days after a top aide to Vice President Mike Pence tested positive for the deadly coronavirus - throwing President Donald Trump and his team into an anxious frenzy - the White House made official for its employees what have long been prescribed for the public at large: masks.

A memo on Monday instructed most White House officials to wear masks or face coverings in the West Wing, as well as avoid "unnecessary visits" there - directives to prevent the novel coronavirus from spreading further inside the presidential compound.
