DFLers Roy and Liend Endorsed, Hope to be Red Lake's State Senator and State Rep

Candidates were recently endorsed by the DFL party to take on GOP incumbents Sen. Pau Paul Utke of Park Rapids and Rep. Matt Grossell of Clearbrook. These GOP legislators represent the Red Lake Reservation. Utke in addition represents the White Earth Reservation. Roy and Liend hope to defeat them.

Endorsed for State Senate was Alan Roy of White Earth, and endorsed for State Representative is Jeremiah Liend of rural Bemidji.

Biography

Roy, 36, is a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe in northern Minnesota, and he was elected June 12, 2018 as a tribal council member and Secretary-Treasurer of the Band. He grew up in White Earth. "I come from an Ojibwe and Irish family that is very proud of our heritage."

Roy lives with his wife Henny and three children Christian, Sean, and Ashely, on the White Reservation. Roy is a US Army Veteran. He says that a decade of military service and recent Tribal government experience has prepared him for the important work of representing people locally and nationally.

Biography

Jeremiah Liend was born in Bemidji, Minnesota. He attended school there and in Bagley, graduating from Bemidji High School in 1998. He began his secondary education at Bemidji State University and continued with enrollment in the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, the University of Wisconsin River Falls, and Metropolitan State University, where he earned a Master of Liberal Arts degree.

His capstone research used interdisciplinary methods to create a model for sustainable theater by integrating Theater and Sustainable Sciences. In addition to his educational and political pursuits, Liend is an active member of the performing arts community with a focus on creating new work and as a member of the Swashbuckler and Dramatist Guilds. Liend works remotely as an Operations Support Specialist in charge of interconnection for Complete Solar while living in Turtle River with his family, the best dog in the world, and 12 chickens.
