TERMS: Per Teacher's Master Agreement

JOB PURPOSE: The 6th grade teaching position responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with students; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents.

Qualifications

1. A valid Minnesota teaching license as an elementary education teacher is required, with a middle school endorsement preferred.

2. The candidate is preferred to have teaching experience, especially with American Indian children and/or children at risk for academic success.

3. The candidate should possess and demonstrate considerable knowledge of effective and varied teaching strategies, classroom accommodations, modifications, and varied assessment techniques.

4. The candidate must possess knowledge of various methods of data collection and subsequent analysis and interpretation of data to drive appropriate instructional and classroom interventions.

5. Must possess ability to effectively observe student and teacher performance and provide feed- back to the teacher, parents, and administration to improve teaching and learning.

6. Must possess ability to effectively organize and present information both orally and in writing.

7. Must demonstrate ability to work effectively with parents.

Essential Duties:

1. Teach subject matter, i.e., reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, music, applied technology, etc, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities.

2. Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction.

3. Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.

4. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.

5. Collaborates with administration, teachers, and special education staff to identify, plan, and implement professional development activities and determine follow-up as needed.

6. Evaluate student's academic and personal growth keeping appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.

7. Participates in eligibility and IEP meetings as required by Child Study team meetings, resulting in a continuum of services as determined.
