REP. GROSSELL STATEMENT ON BUDGET UPDATE

CLEARBROOK, MN — State Representative Matt Grossell, R-Clearbrook, issued the following statement regarding the budget update released Tuesday by Minnesota Management and Budget showing a $2.426 billion deficit, and a $3.6 billion overall drop in revenue.

"Tuesday's grim budget update shows the damage this prolonged government mandated shutdown of Minnesota businesses has caused. Our budget relies on the working men and women of our state operating their businesses, paying taxes, and keeping folks off of public assistance programs — with businesses shut down and many closing for good, this budget shortfall was bound to happen."

"Democrat Governors in New York and Wisconsin have already come forward with billions in budget reductions to react to the COVID crisis, and it's time for Gov. Walz to do the same. The governor needs to work with the legislature to trim the state's budget while opening up Minnesota for business. Families and small businesses cannot bear the burden of this crisis alone: government must share in the sacrifice."
