April 7, 1937 ~ April 17, 2020 (age 83)

Charles Gerald Martin, Sr., age 83, of Red Lake, Minnesota entered the spirit world on Friday, April 17th, 2020 from the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN surrounded by his family. He was born on April 7th, 1937 in Red Lake, MN, the son of Elizabeth Long and Sam Rainey.

Charles grew up in Red Lake and graduated from the Red Lake High School in 1954. After high school, he joined and spent three years in the United States Army. Charles met and married the love of his life Marian Ryan on December 27th, 1957 and together they raised six children, many grandchildren and several foster children. He was well known for being the neighborhood mechanic, a great guitar player who often played at family gatherings, and an avid keno player where he and his wife would make their monthly trips to the casino. Charles enjoyed watching old TV shows like Gunsmoke, Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right, as well as listening to country music. Charles had many various jobs in life, such as being an EMT for 15 years, driving truck for the local sawmill for over 30 years, drove shuttle for 7 Clans, and was an independent fisherman. He always taught his children the importance of getting an education and working hard. Charles was a very caring and generous man who will be sadly missed by all.

Family that Charles is reunited with are his wife of 64 years, Marian Martin; daughters, Charlene Martin and Donna Prentice; parents, Sam and Elizabeth; sisters, Kathy, Barbara and Julia; brothers, Patrick and Larry; grandchildren, Jacob, Charlie and Jared; two great grandchildren, Travion and Jordyn; uncle, Kenneth Rainey, Sr. and his best friend, Tilford Hill.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Charles (Faythe) Martin, Jr., Gerald (Wendy) Martin, William Martin, Myron (Mary) Martin and Shawn Martin all of Red Lake; daughter, Marilyn Feather of Red Lake; brothers, Bradley Long, Sr. and Ronald Long, Sr. both of Red Lake; 26 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and eight foster grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

An overnight wake for Charles will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 23rd and continue until his 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Friday, April 24th all to be held at the Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake, MN. Father Jerry Rogers will officiate. Pallbearers for Charles will be Charles Martin III, Michael Lussier, Evan RedEagle, Brendan Neadeau, Chris Martin and Aaron Graves. The alternate pallbearers are Gary Long, Adrian Stately, Donald Kelly, William Long and Wilbert Maxwell, Jr. His honorary pallbearers are Candace LaGou, Joanie Hill, Karen Ramirez, Pat Pierre and all his former Casino Co-Workers. Inurnment will be at the Martin Residence in Red Lake, MN at a later date.
